The corona pandemic severely impacted the aviation industry. In the spring of 2020 passenger traffic largely came to a halt as a result of stringent travel restrictions and declining consumer confidence. The recovery was slower than expected due to new outbreaks and virus mutations travel which made governments reluctant to lift restrictions. As a result, aviation forecasts – which were already largely pessimistic – had to be revised downwards several times.
On November 3rd, 2021 Rogier Lieshout will give a lecture on air traffic forecasting in times of extreme uncertainty. He will show when and how forecasts were evised during the pandemic. What lessons can be learned from this?
